Acid Brass

Every once in a while I will see a programme or exhibition, or read an article or something, that really reminds me just why I love art.
Today I watched a Culture Show documentary on Jeremy Deller, it was SO GOOD! I just really love his work. I like how he creates these non-traditional, unsaleable (um, yeah, apparently that's a word) conceptual art works, without being a complete dick about it. He just seems so friendly and down to earth, and even though he works in mediums which the 'average joe' (ha) might not recognise as art, he's totally inclusive and not elitist at all.
I'd really like to go to his exhibition at the Hayward that's on soon, particularly to see his bat film (title?), which just looks so intense and beautiful.

Also, I had my art foundation interview today and got in. Yay! So I just feel really excited and inspired now. I think I'll go watch the documentary again! Eeep.

Count the headlights on the highway

I have an interview for art foundation on Friday so I'm sifting through, re-doing, and mounting work for my portfolio. It's tiringgggg but actually kind of fun. This post is pointless but I need something vaguely 'productive' to do on my 'crisp break'. I'd forgotten about these photos I took through a prism. I quite like them, they're kind of trippy...

Lo-lee-ta

"Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.

She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita."

You're not really here, it's just the radio...

I bought myself a cheap film slr camera on ebay the other day and have just got my first roll developed! Usually when I purchase a new camera I just dive right in and take loads of photos, but this time I was really methodical and wrote down the speed, apeture, subject and weather conditions down in my little note book, so I can look back and see where I've made mistakes. It sounds anal, but it I enjoyed the ritual and the slowness that you don't get with digital. Anyway, these are a few of my favourites.

pom poms

I 'snazzed up' (ha) this shimmery gold top today by adding some tiny little pom poms, using my trusty glue gun! I bought the top in the Topshop sale a few weeks ago and have only worn it once, as I love the colour and the texture but there was just something about it that left me uninspired. It's not often that I buy things from high-street shops, partly because I think some of them are unethical and morally dubious, but also because the items in there aren't one-of-a-kind, and sometimes if I buy something that is very on trend I tend to get bored of it quickly. Anywho, I'm sat here in all my customised things; this top, a flower crown and my detachable collar: all dressed up with nowhere to go...

DIY aside, pom poms is also the title of my favourite song by Scout Niblett, I love the line "Everybody needs someone to spell out their name." So true.

"I am a golden god!"

My friend bought me Almost Famous on dvd the other day and IT'S THE BEST MOVIE EVERRR! I can't stop watching it and longing to go on an American roadtrip and relive the 70s. Or something.

I was also pretty excited when I heard about a study day run by the Victoria & Albert museum called Designing the Decades 1970s. It's a day of lectures on aspects of the 70s, including one called "1970s Fashion and its Relationship to Music"! It sounds great!
